PACS Administrator

Familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures related to PACS, servers and workstations. Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks. Leads and directs the work of others. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected. Reports to director of Imaging. Responsible for the daily operations of the Picture Archiving and Communications Systems. Oversees equipment maintenance and systems testing, upgrading, and installing. Acts as a liaison between the Imaging department and customers. Maintains positive vendor relationship. Familiar with all Imaging field's concepts, practices, and procedures. Reports to Imaging Department Director.

Job Responsibilities/Duties

  • Ensures integrity of data in Radiology Information System (RIS), from “Exam Scheduled” to “Complete”.
  • Ensures reports from radiologists flow into all our electronic systems: RIS, PACS, HPF.
  • Generates management reports such as: Department and staff productivity, turn-around-time of exams and reports, etc.
  • Sets up, operates, troubleshoots and maintains electronic equipment as required.
  • Documents all completed duties/procedures utilizing appropriate forms according to departmental policy.
  • Documents delays, cancellations, change of procedure, reason exam was not completed as requested, as well as the individual requesting the changes.
  • Completes all duties within appropriate time frame.
  • Accurately completes all required reports, projects and productivity records on a timely basis.
  • Communicates information to Director of Assistant Director.
  • Assists in developing the skills of other staff members.
  • Assists in the revision and updating of the departmental policies and procedures. Reviews pertinent procedures yearly.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Identifies and reports problems in the flow of information throughout all electronic systems and works diligently towards a solution.
  • Observes the work of others as it relates to use of PACS and offers suggestions for improved efficiency.
  • Modifies the plan in conjunction with management.
  • Documents information relating to the effectiveness of procedures in place.
  • Follows-up on assigned delegated tasks.
  • Adapts to changes in the workload, schedules, new situations and/or emergencies.
  • Identifies changes that affect job performance and communicates it to the appropriate personnel.


Minimum Education: High school diploma or equivalent. 

Minimum Experience: At least three (3) years of experience as PACS Administrator​.

Req. Certification/Licensure: Certifications by PARCA or CIIP preferred but not required​.
