Engagement Consultant - Patient Accounting

The Patient Accounting Subject Matter Expert participates in all facets of the project for their respective area including current state analysis, future state design, data collection, build, testing, data conversion, training, and go-live support.  

The Patient Accounting Subject Matter Expert works under the direction of Design / Build and Implementation Project Managers.

Job Responsibilities/Duties

  • Gain clear understanding of project goals and objectives as well as Financial user’s requirements to ensure optimal use of the solutions.
  • Participate in design activities related to the solutions.
  • Provide solution and process knowledge in support of system design, process re-engineering and learning plan development.
  • Identify the specialty workflow and assist in defining a standardized work process.
  • Coordinates with Patient Accounting users in documenting current financial workflows, performing gap analysis.
  • Assist in the design of the electronic health record and/or revenue cycle process.
  • Facilitate stakeholder review of the solutions.
  • Collect information to be used in database configuration.
  • Working with team to develop and execute unit, system and integration test plans.
  • Test solution configuration and certify readiness for conversion.
  • Participate in implementation strategies.
  • Participate in training plan development and execution.
  • Support end-user training.
  • Provides support to end users during Go-live.
  • Troubleshoot and remedy solution-related problems.
  • Identify goals and objectives, measures, and the report format for assessing process improvement.
  • Be visible as a strong proponent of the EMR.
  • Participate on steering committees or advisory groups.


Minimum Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.  

Minimum Experience: Three to five (3-5) years’ experience within acute care financial environment in related area.Experience with Cerner Millennium’s Revenue Cycle including Inpatient Patient Accounting, Charge Services, Registration, Scheduling and HIM preferred. Three or more (3+) years’ implementation experience and/or support of financial information systems in a healthcare environment preferred.

Req. Certification/Licensure: Additional relevant certification a plus.
