Reporting directly to the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) and in collaboration with the VP of Quality/Risk the Stroke Program Manager is responsible for the overall coordination of the Stroke Program at assigned facility(s).  Participates in and manages program development, the accreditation process and ensures regulatory compliance for all assigned program(s).  Maintains and creates relevant policies and procedures.  Tracks outcomes, data collection, and quality improvement efforts.  Provides staff education in various aspects of the stroke patient with a focus on patient safety.  Serves as a liaison between the facility and neurologist at the center(s) and neurologist providing call coverage.  Ensures an effective patient care delivery system that is compliant and consistent with standards of practice.  Implements strategies, processes, and standards to ensure operations support the key organizational and departmental initiatives such as quality of care, patient safety, and patient satisfaction. 

• Develops and manages the accreditation process for Stroke Program. Manages Stroke Program including committee meetings, staff education, and patient education classes. Incorporates knowledge of AHA Guidelines as well as emerging science and evidence based practice into Stroke Program standards. Participates in Acute Stroke Code activations when available to ensure protocols are followed. Assists in coordination of the Tele-Neurology Program.
• Ensures compliance with all applicable policies/procedures, laws, regulatory agency requirements, codes of practice, and organizational work standards (service, quality and safety standards). Effectively develops unit/department operational policies and procedures.  Maintains records related to operations and services that are complete, accurate, available, and in compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements. Ensures Infection Control procedures and HIPAA compliance.
• Develops and maintains quality improvement activities and recommends / implements changes as appropriate. Assumes responsibility for quality assurance data and participates in the collection and evaluation of quality improvement data (including reporting).  Monitors internal controls and seeks to resolve issues in a timely manner.  Provides effective oversight and guidance of staff and operations to ensure quality patient care, including audits of activities and documentation. Develops Stroke Program performance improvement project annually.
• Collaborates with staff and members of the healthcare team, ensuring the coordination of care between other disciplines and support staff. Acts as a source of information and articulately responds to questions, providing resources, guidance and education about diagnoses and course of treatment for Stroke patients. Ensures accurate teaching and safe discharge process.
• Oversees contract labor, including appropriate credentialing, orientation and evaluation. Effectively allocates and evaluates department work and provides leadership and follow through to ensure that patient care is delivered in a timely, efficient manner. 

Minimum Education: Graduate of an Accredited School of Nursing required. Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing required. Master of Science Degree in Nursing preferred.

Minimum Experience: At least five (5) years’ experience in direct patient care in Neuroscience Nursing or Neurosurgery area; one (1) year experience in management required. Strong time management skills and ability to effectively prioritize tasks. Strong computer skills with Outlook, Microsoft Word and Excel programs. Ability to build and maintain strong relationship at all levels of the organization. At least one (1) year of experience as a Stroke Program Coordinator/Manager preferred.

Req. Certification/Licensure: Active, current, and unencumbered Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of California required. NIHSS certification obtained within 30 days of employment required. AHA Basic Life Support required. CCRN or ACRN Certification preferred. Certified Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) preferred.
