RN Bariatric Coordinator - Full Time, Days (Culver City)

The RN Bariatric Coordinator is responsible for the planning & coordinating the MBS Committee Meetings. Implementation of Bariatric education programs for nurses/staff. Works closely with the nursing directors and/or department managers on the educational needs assessment and orientation programs for staff, in the assigned specialty.  Ensures that competencies and skills are current and relevant for the nursing staff.  Functions as a resource for educational issues related to bariatric surgery.



Job Responsibilities/Duties

  • Participates in staff skill fairs with regards to care of the bariatric surgery patients.  Collaborates to ensure consistency and continuity of Bariatric Surgery education programs. 
  • Oversees the orientation of new hires into the hospital and provides education with regards to the care of bariatric surgery patients.  Provides ongoing staff educational needs with regards to patient care and use of equipment and furniture for bariatric surgery patients. Ensures that competencies and skills are current and relevant.
  • Facilitates training and learning activities through development of education programs and materials. Delivers educational programs through formal and informal means, makes effective and efficient use of time and resources, manages learning environment, and assists learner to identify learning needs. Gives direction and feedback to participants as needed.
  • Operates as a positive influence and resource for the care of Bariatric Surgery patients by promoting staff competence and understanding of issues. Administrates the MBS committee.
  • Participates in the collection of quality improvement data. Completes data entry in the MBSAQIP Registry database ensuring the documentation is accurate, complete and submitted timely.


Qualifications

Minimum Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred.

Minimum Experience: Five (5) years of clinical experience required. Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English. Good computer skills and knowledge of excel program. Ability to maintain flexibility and composure in a constantly changing environment. Experience as a Nurse Educator preferred.

Req. Certification/Licensure: AHA Basic Life Support required. Hospital Fire and Life Safety Card (Los Angeles City Employees only) required. Certified Bariatric Nurse preferred. Active, current, and unencumbered Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of California preferred.
