Principal Data Architect

The Principal Data Architect is responsible for delivering analytics application capabilities to the organization, through requirements gathering end user interaction, data, data analysis, data profiling, extraction and transformations, data modeling, leveraging the appropriate data integration and modeling tools.

Independently develop complete solutions of advanced complexity, analyze, extract and integrate data into enterprise data repository for existing and new data sources, enriching data repositories and data dictionaries in the process, and provide appropriate support to other team members to meet the clinical or business intelligence needs. Lead initiatives or projects within the team, developing management and leadership skills. In collaboration with other members of the DSS team, adheres to efficient work processes to ensure that the team’s efforts are timely, defect-free deliverables. Mentors more junior staff members.



Job Responsibilities/Duties

  • Guides junior staff and takes the lead on data projects and initiatives, creating conceptual and logical business models used to generate physical data models and database schema.
  • Identify and document current and future state of data architecture.
  • Research, promote and develop data architecture best practices.
  • Work closely with multiple business units to clarify and refine functional data requirement specifications.
  • Collaborate with various departments, architects, project managers and technical managers to provide estimates, develop overall implementation solution plan and serve as a lead, when required, to implement solutions.
  • Effectively present / communicate data models to the business and IT teams.
  • Maintains data base performance by identifying and resolving production and application development problems, evaluating, integrating, and installing new releases, completing maintenance, and answering user questions.
  • Prepare users by conducting training.


Qualifications

Minimum Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or Engineering or equivalent experience.

Minimum Experience: Management experience required.  Eight plus (8+) years of experience in database design, data maintenance and database management required. Six plus (6+) years of experience in SQL development with SSIS and SSRS experience preferred. Experience establishing master data management policies and procedures. Advanced knowledge of MS Access and Excel. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Highly motivated, detail-oriented, and organized. Ability to interface with all levels of management and work in a high pressure environment. Excellent people skills. Ability to work on call as needed. Ability to work effectively and lead a team of junior data architects with little direction.  Must be able to develop creative solutions to problems.
