Job Description

Lead Intake Coordinator

The Lead Intake Coordinator is responsible for processing for the Behavioral Health and Chemical Dependency Units. The Coordinator is also responsible for providing guidance and training to Intake Coordinators, patient insurance verification and utilization, registration, interviewing patients or their representation to obtain needed clinical, financial and demographic information. Provides initial contact to the unit for patient and family. Prepares paperwork for the medical charts and billing folders. Handles involuntary commitment duties to ensure admission is carried out properly and that all paperwork is signed in preparation for court mandated deadlines.

Job Responsibilities/Duties

  • Collects deposits for patients paying cash or patients supplementing insurance coverage. Verifies insurance and facilitates financial arrangements for admission.
  • The main job is to take down all the necessary information and enter it into your facility’s computer system so that the health care providers can do their jobs.
  • Communicates daily with the unit's staff members on any incoming admissions.
  • Treats patients with dignity and confidentiality displaying warmth, compassion and understanding.
  • Interfaces with the Medical Director, Program Director and Clinical Director on intakes, patient care and aftercare program.


Minimum Education: High School diploma or equivalent. Combination of education and experience is preferred.    

Minimum Experience: Three (3) years Intake experience in inpatient chemical dependency or behavioral health setting. Prior experience in case management and utilization review process. Minimum two (2) years sobriety experience preferred.

Req. Certification/Licensure: Current CPI or MAB Certification required.
