Counselor Behavioral Health - Per Diem, Variable (Culver City)

The Behavioral Health Counselor performs general duties required to function as a Drug Counselor for assigned patients throughout treatment on the Chemical Dependency Unit.  Conducts individual and group counseling sessions as it relates to the treatment and recovery of the chemically dependent patient and his/her family/significant others.  Implements discharge planning and movement through the continuum of care.

Job Responsibilities/Duties

  • Completes and documents initial interviews, psychosocial history and initial case assessment and evaluation with assigned patients in a timely manner. 
  • Assesses client's clinical needs utilizing sound knowledge of chemical dependancy and/or mental disorders.
  • Demonstrates the ability to prioritize needs, establishes realistic short and long-term treatment goals. 
  • Actively involves the client in the identification of his/her goals and facilitates treatment modalities to address identified client needs and goals. 
  • Assists the patient to establish a discharge plan for continued support of identified goals as well as involvement in leisure and social outlets.
  • Modifies group intervention to meet the changing needs of the clients. 
  • bilingual skills to communicate effectively with patients and families preferred.


Minimum Education: None.

Minimum Experience: Two (2) years counseling experience working in chemical dependency, rehabilitative or community 12-step based treatment setting. Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English required. Ability to maintain flexibility and composure in a constantly changing environment required. Bilingual skills to communicate effectively with patients and families preferred. Experience working with/knowledge of community resources preferred. Experience facilitating groups preferred. 

Req. Certification/Licensure: California Certification Board of Alcoholism and Drug abuse Counselors (CCBADC), California Association of Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors (CAADAC), LCSW, MFT, Licensed Psychologist, or Physician required. Current certification from CCBADC or CAADAC required. AHA Basic Life Support required. De-escalation certification upon hire; Upon recertification, SAMA Certification required.  SAMA Certification upon hire preferred.
