CNA - Med/Surg

The CNA , Medical Surgical Department is responsible for providing basic bedside nursing care to the adolescent, adult and older adult (geriatric) patient as directed and supervised by a Registered Nurse.

Job Responsibilities/Duties

  • Documents vital signs, weight, oral intake, and output according to hospital / department policy. Performs clerical tasks in support of nursing services of assigned patient care area. Effectively interacts with patients, visitors, and other members of the health care team in order to support the delivery of quality patient care.
  • May identify basic learning needs of any patient / family, including barriers to learning. Relays this information to a team leader in a timely manner.
  • Provides RN with data that may be used in the development of the plan of care and patient goals.
  • Identifies and reports to team leader or Charge Nurse in a timely manner, findings in patient and/or department status.
  • Provides direct patient care to adolescent, adult and geriatric patients understanding the differences each group may require (e.g., assistance with ADLS). (See Age Specific Competency).


Minimum Education: High School degree or equivalent. Completion of California Certified Nurse Assistant Course.

Minimum Experience: Minimum one (1) year experience in a long term or acute care facility five (5) years. One of which was full time in a patient activities program in a healthcare setting, preferred.

Req. Certification/Licensure: Current California Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA); Current American Heart Association (BLS) Certification. Current CPI Certification.
